The Malaysian fashion designer opened his incredible show to the haunting Whistle tune from the Kill Bill soundtrack (Twisted Nerve). The song was paramount in this show as the designs were straight out of the Tarantino-esque movie starring Lady Gaga.
Digital prints on silk clung to each of the models as they took to the stark white catwalk. Make up was barely there apart from thick warrior-style black eye-liner over and above each of the eye brows and lids.
Some designs included an all in one balaclava with a peak over the forehead, while others were high collars, backless designs with hair twisted into an unusual lose braid.
Bernard Chandran also showcased his Lady Gaga style body-con with skin tight sleeves, and leather corset over the top.
The designs were masterful. The show was intriguing, and I can’t remember if I took in breath until the applause at the end. The unique finale saw the models take to the catwalk all at once in perfect sync and then stand at the end in front of the press pit, in front of the entire crowd for at least a minute. A minute is a long time in catwalk speak and it was the perfect photographic opportunity.
The Whistle tune slowly faded out, and Bernard Chandran appeared in full view – proud and embracing the crowd and the photographers and took a bow.
A perfect, perfect show!
Venue for this season’s Fashion Scout was the Freemason’s Hall, Great Queen Street, London.
